It’s a New Year, which means new ideas and a soft relaunch of Gaming Ramble Weekly (which you’re reading right now). Firstly, hello, I hope you’re well and excited for what 2024 has to offer for you. A New Year always brings what feels like fresh opportunities and motivation to try something new, or retry something you once loved but slowly faded away from. And with this blog, 2024 represents an exciting new step and idea into what this project will look like.
I first started Gaming Ramble Weekly in the Autumn of 2022 as a way to create a portfolio of work in the pursuit of becoming a games journalist. And in some ways, I had initially succeeded, having written 8-10 opinion pieces in a couple of months, I was accepted to write for a small gaming website that liked what I had written previously. I put a post in to be reviewed before being placed on the website, and unfortunately, so many changes were made that I felt it was no longer me writing, but someone else taking my piece and turning it into what they wanted it to be.
So I gave up. The passion for the craft slowly died out, and then life got in the way. I stopped completely for 10 months, content in just playing games, rather than writing about them. But then, in October, I felt that I had something to say, maybe write about games I’ve been playing, reconnect with the people I met during lock-down on Twitch, and start writing again. And I did, going back to the original format of longer format posts, reviewing games and giving my opinion. But something didn’t feel right, maybe I felt that it just wasn’t what I wanted to do with this, and so, during December, I spent time trying to figure out what Gaming Ramble Weekly would be in 2024.
And this is it, it’s going to be a blog series, written with more of a personal touch, talking about games I’ve been playing, or maybe just about life. This will be a weekly, and shorter, series, with a sprinkling of gaming news or opinions to keep my interest up with what I feel is quite possibly the most interesting industry today. The gaming market evolves on a monthly basis, and so much happens, that I know for a fact there will be something to cover every week on here.
And if you are my only reader, I thank you firstly, but secondly, a warm welcome. This isn’t about having loads and loads of people reading (although that would be a lovely bonus), but this is very much a project for me, a hobby as such, to tap into something I just love doing. So if you choose to join me on this journey, I hope you enjoy my weekly ramblings, and maybe, I may have an opinion you agree with.
Next week will kick off the start of the new format properly, so keep posted for that! Until then, enjoy the start of this New Year, maybe have a laugh at just how terrible The Day Before was, and most importantly, get stuck into that backlog of games you have waiting to be finished.
